Fine Design?

The change from Graphic Design to Fine Art. To be perfectly honest i don't really see this as that much of a change to how i will be working. I will still be working in the same way but instead of getting given a brief i get to set it myself... and i can just go and make a mess every so often... what more can you want in life haha, and best of all i can still continue the design studies lectures (hopefully). Honest I'm not just trying to get in the good books by saying this. The lectures this year have been some of the biggest inspiration on me as a person and not just my art work. I can defiantly subscribe to a design way of thinking about problems. I just don't feel i work in the same manner as a think... if you can make sense of that then you are doing better then me. I am really looking forward to starting next week and will just have to see what it brings i suppose.

Other than the course change i have been really irritated at the BBC question time show. I know a lot of people will feel the same way... but will rant anyway just to get it out. first of all i think they did nothing wrong by letting Nick Griffin speak on the show. He is an elected official and it would have been wrong for them not to. However i am annoyed at the way they hyped it up so much that it actually caused riots! I know they wanted to get their ratings up but that is a disgraceful way of doing it. Also i didn't like the way that they totally loaded the audience just to attack him. I think the BNP are a disgusting origination but by constantly attacking him they almost gave him some sort of credit by creating a sympathy for him. Also the publicity that they created for the BNP was ridiculous as they turned the whole thing into the Nick Griffin show rather than a political debate. Give a man like him enough rope and he will eventually hang himself with it, there is no need to go out and try to do it for him... but on the plus side they did give us some of the best quotes of recent memory.

George Galloway and Sky News

Ok i may not agree with George Galloway on a lot of points but this is brilliant :)

Brain storm and Diego Garcia

this week in design studies we have been asked to brainstorm our chosen chapters of "the Tipping Point" in groups. Due to being held up helping other projects (damn you Steve) i was unable to join in my groups brain storming. But thankfully i was able to join in one of the other groups. These are the results. It took us a while to get started on the brainstorming but due to setting a time limit of 15 mins on each one we never really got anywhere with them until the last 2 mins.

Ok i have no clue why that paragraph is underlined.... and i cant work out how to change it... sorry.

Other than the Brain Storming i have been having more thoughts on my "snail and rock" project. After finding out that the final product had to be a food stuff i had to scrap the majority of my previous ideas (helps if you read the brief properly), But due to this i have managed to come up with (in my opinion) the best idea so far. i am going to try and produce some sort of health drink made out of rock minerals and snails... yes i know this sounds disgusting but that i think is the point of a health drink. The worst it tastes the better it must be for you? good logic yeah. i have also decided to keep the packaging low budget and am thinking of doing something like a milk carton. most of the inspiration i have had so far has been form the "Innocence Smoothie" brand.

Other thoughts for the moment are towards the travesty that occurred on the island of "Diego Gracia". It is something that has just came to my attention now so i am going to make every effort i can to spread the word. In short what happened was during the 60's the British government decided to exile the entire population of one of its islands in order to rent it out to America to be used as a military air field. Ever person on the island was a British citizen and had the same rights as anyone living in Britain until the government decided to revoke their citizenship and now have been left stranded in a foreign country with no way of supporting themselves. The case went to the high court in Britain and was judged to be completely illegal and the government was ordered to return the people to their island but due to this being vetoed by the house of lords nothing has been done. even with protests from almost every international law origination. And what is even better is that the government has made no attempt to cover this up but instead have relied on the fact that no one would ever hear about it or bother to look it up. If anyone wants to find out more information about this there has been a documentary made about the whole event called
"Stealing a Nation" by John Pilger. i did attempt to post the video on the blog but for some reason it didn't work but the video can be looked up on google videos. Here is the link.

Mind Map

Well i have been quite lazy recently for updating the blog. But that isn’t to say i haven’t been active… just not in the mood for typing it all up :p. Anyway first of all i have been given an assignment for DHTP to create a mind map for “the tipping point” by Malcolm Gladwell which is one of the set texts for the course. And despite what you would expect from a set text it was actually a pleasure to read. i am at the worst of times what could be called an avid reader. But with this book i really couldn’t put it down. and i would recommend this to anyone and not just form a design view point. So anyway here is the mind maps that i was asked to post. Mind Map

Apart form that i have been very musically orientated this week. Have become involved with a new acoustic side project, playing nice happy songs. I have also been given a new brief today which basically consists of combining “rocks” and “snails” somehow to invent a product…. admittedly we don’t actually have to make the product but rather the packaging. I’m actually quite looking forward to this as its a 5 week project rather than the usual 2 week ones. So i will finally have a good amount of time to work on it, rather than rushing everything… but knowing the tutors that just indicates that this will actually take about 6 weeks and we will have to cram it into 5. oh well. But so fr i have been looming towards some sort of spa product, I’m not quite sure where this will end up going but i feel that both snails and rocks would fit quite well with the calm tranquil ethos of a spa? will post up pictures and idea when i actually know what i am going to do.
